UIU awards Churbuck Scholarship to Aztec, NM resident

Fayette, IA (12/08/2023) — Upper Iowa University (UIU) is proud to announce the 2023-2024 Lew Churbuck Scholarship is awarded to Jayden Shaw.

This endowed scholarship pays tribute to the late Dr. Lewis "Lew" Churbuck, a 1967 graduate of Upper Iowa, who was a beloved biology professor for 37 years at the University. This award is distributed annually to a deserving student who chooses to pursue a career in the biological sciences. Shaw was hand-selected by UIU Department of Science and Mathematics faculty members.

Jayden Shaw, the son of Jared & Virginia Shaw of Aztec, New Mexico, is currently majoring in biology. His extracurricular activities include volunteering as a Student Philanthropy Council member and an active member of the UIU Engagement Crew. In his free time, he is an avid hunter and is a former member of UIU Shotgun Sports.

Jayden is currently working to finish his degree and is also gaining field experience by interning at Volga River State Recreation Area working as a park technician. He anticipates graduating in May 2024.
