Upper Iowa University community unlocks a 'Treasure' of Giving Day contributions

Fayette, IA (04/24/2019) — The Upper Iowa University (UIU) community once again beat the clock and surpassed its "Treasure the Gift of Giving" Giving Day goals. Nearly $159,000 was contributed by 780 donors over 1,857 minutes Thursday, April 11 through Friday, April 12. Even after the event concluded, another 20 donors contributed an additional $1,200.

"The support shown to UIU during our third annual UIU Giving Day is humbling," UIU vice president for external affairs Andrew Wenthe said. "It is amazing to know how passionate our alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents, and other UIU friends are in their dedication to our institution. I want to specifically thank alumnus Jim ('73) and Ronda Parsons along with all of our Challenge Donors who helped us motivate others to exceed our Giving Day goals. All 800 donors helped make a difference in an abundance of ways and we are already looking forward to the excitement our 2020 UIU Giving Day will bring!"

The 2019 Giving Day initiative included seven unique giving challenges for various UIU programs, all of which directly impact UIU students. As challenges were achieved, donor gifts ranging from $2,500 to $25,000 were unlocked, including a $25,000 matching gift from the Parsons once UIU unlocked the 50 State Challenge.

Last year's Giving Day saw over 550 donors and contributions of over $96,000. This year's goal was for 750 UIU supporters to step forward and donate.
