2012 Jul 19

Seven students from Upper Iowa University, including Phoebe Mills of Maynard, IA, presented their research projects at the Iowa Academy of Science annual meeting in Mason City recently. Undergraduate research allows students to apply their scientific knowledge to an area of their interest while gaining relevant employment skills.

Mills presented on the topic of the effects of kin neighbors on plant performance in velvetleaf.

The student projects were completed under the advisement of Dr. Jennifer Stoffel, Dr. Katherine McCarville and Dr. Aaron Haines. Poster or oral presentations were also given by Upper Iowa faculty Barb Ehlers, Dr. Katherine McCarville and Dr. Aaron Haines. Breina Burgin, an alumna, was also at the Academy meeting to present her current masters research at Iowa State University, Ames.
