Organic production presentation April 20

Fayette, IA (04/18/2022) — Third generation farmer Scott Wedemeier and Iowa Organic Association education and outreach coordinator Olga Reding continue their college tour to promote organic ag at Upper Iowa University's (UIU) Fayette Campus Wednesday, April 20. The presentation is a follow-up to their "Growing Organic Expertise Across Iowa" visit to UIU in November 2021.

The program, sponsored by a grant from Iowa REAP CEP, funds events at 10 Iowa colleges to raise awareness of the immense opportunities and benefits of an organic production system. The fall 2021 program schedule included topics about organic certification, inspection, and its environmental benefits. As part of the 2022 activities, each participating college will also participate in a field day on an organic farm. Reding will start the April 20 event with a presentation from 11 a.m. - noon in Baker-Hebron Room 109. Participants will then visit Wedemeier's rural Maynard farm from 1-2:30 p.m.

The public is welcome to join UIU faculty, staff and students in attending the April 20 event. Please RSVP by contacting UIU Delano Professor of Science Katherine McCarville at mccarvillek@uiu.edu or 563-425-5233.
