St. Cloud, FL; Plainfield, IL; Brownsdale, MN; Oswego, IL; Independence, IA, students elected
Fayette, IA (03/02/2020) — A St. Cloud, Florida, native has been elected Upper Iowa University (UIU) Student Government Association (SGA) president. Carter Harris, a sophomore biology major, was recently elected alongside four additional officers at UIU's Fayette Campus for the 2020-21 academic year.
"I chose to run for Student Government president after (SGA) secretary Alyson Carroll told me about the responsibilities of the office and all that the organization can do for the school," Harris said. "I already have a good relationship with many of the students, and I want to be a voice for my friends here at Upper Iowa."
Harris, whose biology emphasis is in pre-med, is a member of the Beta Delta Pi fraternity and Peacock football team. In addition to Harris, the newly elected Upper Iowa University 2020-21 SGA officers are as follows:
Vice President Lane Canny is a junior sports communication major from Brownsdale, Minnesota. A member of the football team, he sees his time with SGA as an opportunity to continue building his leadership skills.
Secretary Alyson Carroll was reelected to her SGA position. A junior from Oswego, Illinois, majoring in special education, she is currently involved in Peacocks for a Cure, Best Buddies and Education Club at Fayette Campus. Carroll sought another term with SGA because she wanted to continue playing a part in changes at UIU.
Treasurer Ally Fink is junior from Plainfield, Illinois. Double majoring in biology and psychology, she is a member of Peacocks for a Cure and women's basketball team. As a SGA officer, Fink believes she will have the opportunity to be more actively involved at UIU.
Internal Relations Officer Kaitlin Niedert is a junior from Independence, Iowa. An elementary education major, she is currently involved with UIU volleyball, Student Athlete Advisory Council, Best Buddies, Peacocks for a Cure, Kappa Zeta Tau and the Csomay Honors Program. Niedert admits that SGA is somewhat out of her comfort zone but believes it will provide her the chance to learn more about herself, Fayette Campus and UIU's other education locations.
SGA agendas are emailed to UIU students before every scheduled meeting. Unless otherwise notified, all meetings are held at 12:15 p.m. every other Monday in the Student Center Ballroom at Fayette Campus. For additional information, contact studentgovernment@uiu.edu.
