Upper Iowa University now offering courses at NAS Meridian

Fayette, IA (07/27/2021) — Upper Iowa University (UIU), an award-winning, military-friendly university founded in 1857 with multiple education locations at military installations, is now offering courses at the U.S. Naval Air Station (NAS) in Meridian, Mississippi. Students can earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in business administration with either an accounting or supply chain management emphasis. A Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in accounting is also available.

"We're extremely proud and excited to partner with Naval Air Station Meridian and the United States Navy to offer classes at our newest course location beginning in August," UIU President Dr. William R. Duffy II said. "This is the seventh UIU center or course location that supports our nation's service men and women, veterans, Department of Defense civilians, contractors and the total military family."

The "Peacock Spirit" will be displayed during UIU's NAS Meridian Center open house from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 28. The meet and greet event is open to all NAS Meridian personnel and their families.

"I am excited for this opportunity to establish and develop a university center that brings new academic resources to supplement our area and serve the Meridian community with a variety of academic programs," Dr. Elizabeth Harmon Threatt, UIU-NAS Meridian center director, said. "As a native to Meridian, I immediately recognized the impact and opportunity that the Upper Iowa University center could have on my hometown community and the residents of our city. Also, being married to a long-term member of the Mississippi Air National Guard, I was especially impressed with how UIU provides such unique, affordable, and accessible educational opportunities for military members and their families."

Many UIU students blend their degree plan by taking face-to-face, online and self-paced courses. All majors utilize a unique, flexible course schedule. Each academic year consists of five 8-week sessions and one accelerated 6-week summer session. UIU undergraduate students typically take two to three classes at a time, while graduate students enroll in one class at a time. To further inspire success and empower lives, UIU provides evening classes, expert faculty, and supportive staff that students need to advance their career while still tending to family, job and other day-to-day responsibilities. Credits may also be earned through an individual's work experience (e.g. military training captured on joint service transcripts), various college examinations and CLEP/DSST.

The UIU Military Family Grant extends the University's $250 per credit hour tuition rate for undergraduate courses to the spouses and dependents of active duty servicemembers for undergraduate classes. UIU accepts tuition assistance, veteran's educational benefits, scholarships and Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts. UIU also offers annual Military Spouse Scholarships, a Patriot Grant for all veterans and active DOD card holders, and tuition grants through UIU's Corporate Advantage Partnership program to eligible employees of participating companies.
